What Is ABS Plastic?
ABS = Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
ABS creates a strong plastic as chains of components including acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene are bound together. Although the cost of producing ABS is more expensive than other polystyrenes ABS is a popular thermoplastic to produce due to its outstanding properties. These include:
- Hard/ tough and resistant to impact
- Resilience to both high and low temperature within temperatures ranges of -20 to 80 degree Celsius
- Shiny/ glossy with an attractive appearance
- ABS can be used for both Extrusion and Injection Moulding by altering the component measurements.
- Resistant to chemicals including phosphoric and aqueous acids, alkalis and some oils
- Good electrical properties as it can maintain a constant frequency
- Recyclable, therefore considered to promote environmental sustainable qualities
