What is Thermoplastic PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) used for?

First of all let’s establish what thermoplastic or thermo softening plastic is; Thermosoftening plastic will melt to a certain degree, when a specific temperature is applied allowing the plastic to become formable. There are a number of different thermoplastics used to create a variety of products.

Thermoplastic PVC is one of the plastics that can be used for this process. You will no doubt be familiar with drainpipes, gutters and roofing sheets. All of these products are likely to be made up of PVC. PVC is often resistant to acids and is therefore weather resistant, a great quality for a product that may be predominantly used outdoors. It is also lightweight, durable and fire resistant, and is therefore often used in the building and construction industries.

Interestingly, when plasticizers are added to PVC, to create Flexible PVC, additional products can be produced such as seals, car trims, hoses, water beds and much more.
