Samsung are Recycling Fishing Nets for Phones

Disregarded fishing nets and plastic can pose a considerable threat to ocean wildlife and coral reefs and can do so for many years.

Around 640,000 tons of fishing nets are abandoned and discarded every year, this causes many problems, such as ghost fishing. Ghost fishing is when abandoned fishing nets continue fishing and damaging wildlife in the ocean without purpose. Collecting and repurposing these fishing nets is a great opportunity to help keep our oceans clean.

What is Samsung’s plan?

Samsung ensures that ocean plastic pollution is addressed in a way that has a positive impact on the environment and the lives of their users. They have an ongoing effort to eliminate single-use plastics and other eco-conscious materials.

To help solve these issues, Samsung have recently announced that they will be incorporating recycled plastic from disregarded fishing nets from the ocean when creating their new range of products and any future products they may create. They have developed a new material that gives disregarded ocean plastic and fishing nets and new purpose.

They are introducing this change with the aim to reduce our environmental footprint and create a more sustainable lifestyle for the Samsung community. By reusing this material, it clears the ocean of damaging plastic by giving it a new purpose.

This technological development shows a great achievement in the company to deliver environmental measures and protect the planet.
