The BPF and Horners Award Winners Announced at Interplas 2021

Interplas 2021 again saw the winners of the BPF and Horners Awards announced.

The award is considered to be the longest established design award for polymers worldwide and began when The Worshipful Company of Horners approached the British Plastics Federation in 1946.

The award began as a way to celebrate craftsmen within the plastics industry, with a focus on design and the younger generation. Fast forward to 2021 and the relationship between The Worshipful Company of Horners and BPF is still going strong.

Nowadays the award is given to those who show innovation in plastic design and manufacture.

This year, the winners were announced at Interplas 21 and included the following.

BPF and Horners Awards 21

Polymers Innovation and Design

The winners of the Polymer Innovation and Design award were Plastipak and LifeSafe Technologies.

The award was given due to their design which condensed a bulky metal fire extinguisher into a compact plastic bottle, displaying a fantastic application design.

The result of their design was an innovation that provides homes with a compact safety device, for added convenience and space-saving.

Bottle Makers Award

The winner of the Bottle Maker award was Zotefoams, who developed a fully recyclable beverage carton.

The innovation was created as an alternative to recycling multi-material cartons currently in use. The design was picked as it showcased how plastics can be developed to help move towards a circular economy.

BPF Special Commendation Award

The Special Commendation was awarded to Matric Moulding Systems who developed ‘Soniplas’, a flow enhancement technology.

The technology provides a range of environmental benefits for injection moulding, such as reducing a processor’s carbon footprint, while transforming its profitability.

British Plastics Federation Director General Philip Law said the following: “This year’s winners demonstrate the essential role that plastic products play in society. Plastic innovations help support our society each and every day, whether it’s helping reach the Circular Economy, reducing our carbon footprint, or providing safety to our homes. Congratulations to all the winners of this prestigious award!”
