What Is HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) And What Are Its Advantages?

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPs) is becoming a popular polymer due to it having similar properties to ABS but generally being cheaper. It is commonly being produced due to it’s advantageous physical properties for various different industries including the food industry, automotive industry and within the manufacturing of various consumer products. The benefits included in the production of high impact polystyrene include the following:

  •  it is easy to machine and fabricate
  •  it is a good insulator
  •  it is FDA compliant
  •  it is sturdy and durable with strong impact resistance
  •  it is easily processed
  •  it is easy to paint and glue
  •  it has a relatively low cost
